The projected cost of the election is about 35 million dollars. It is estimated that the State of California's deficit grows by 30 million dollars per day.

When will the public know the complete list of candidates?
The Secretary of State has issued the "certified list" of 135 candidates who have qualified for the ballot. That list can be viewed at the Secretary of State's website at www.ss.ca.gov.

What will the recall ballot look like?
The recall ballot will consist of two portions. The first portion of the ballot will ask whether or not California Governor Gray Davis should be recalled. The second portion of the ballot will consist of a list of candidates who wish to replace Governor Davis.

Can there be write-in candidates?
Yes. A candidate may run as a write-in by filing in the county of residence by September 23.

Will Governor Davis's name be among the candidates listed in section two of the ballot?
No. California law specifies that the governor's name cannot be listed on the "replacement candidate" portion of the recall ballot.

Is it possible for Governor Davis to survive the recall and stay in office?
Yes. If a simple majority of voters vote against the recall on the first portion of the ballot, Governor Davis will remain in office.
