HAHN RECEIVES AFSCME ENDORSEMENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mayor Jim Hahn today announced that he has received the endorsement of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) District Council 36.  AFSCME District Council 36 includes 42 local unions in the Southern California Area that represent 20,000 men and women, including 911 operators, librarians, recreation professionals, clerical workers and support staff.

“As public employees we are proud to provide quality public services.  Mayor Hahn shares this commitment and has fought for the resources and tools that enable us to do the best job possible for the residents of the City of Los Angeles,” said Alice Goff, President of the District Council.

“AFSCME members not only work in Los Angeles, we live here.  We’re proud to support a mayor that’s worked with us to make our communities safer and provide more opportunities to achieve the American dream of homeownership,” said District Council 36 Executive Director Cheryl Parisi.

“I am honored to have AFSCME’s continued support and look forward to working with them throughout this campaign,” said Mayor Hahn.  “With their help we’ll win this campaign and continue our fight for safer streets, more educational opportunities, and more jobs.”

AFSCME joins a growing number of labor organizations that are supporting Mayor Hahn’s re-election, including the Service Employees International Union locals in Los Angeles, the Southern California District Council of Laborers, United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 770, Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters, Ironworkers Local 433, the United Firefighters of Los Angeles City and the Southern California Pipe Trades.
