ASSEMBLYMAN TONY CARDENAS AND CITY COUNCILMAN ALEX PADILLA ENDORSE JIM HAHN FOR MAYOR

Pacoima - Joined by a coalition of Northeast Valley community leaders, State Assemblyman Tony Cardenas and Los Angeles City Councilman Alex Padilla today endorsed City Attorney Jim Hahn's candidacy for Mayor.

Tony Cardenas and Alex Padilla are considered rising political stars in Los Angeles and are two of the city's most influential Latino public officials. Tony Cardenas was born and raised in the Northeast San Fernando Valley and has represented the area in the State Assembly since 1996. He is currently the Chairman of the Assembly Democratic Caucus. Alex Padilla also represents the Northeast Valley on the Los Angeles City Council and was the third youngest member ever elected to the Council. He currently chairs the powerful Assembly Budget Committee.

"I am honored to have the support of Assemblyman Cardenas and Councilman Padilla. Tony and Alex are two of the most energetic and dynamic leaders in our City, and it's great to have them as part of our team. They share my goals to make our communities safer, to create more positive opportunities for our children, and to continue expanding our region's economic growth. Working together I am sure we can meet those goals," Hahn said.

"No one in this race has the experience and understands the needs of the San Fernando Valley better than Jim. Jim has demonstrated his concern for the Valley not only through words, but through action. Jim has taken government from City Hall and has brought it into the neighborhoods. What Jim has done in my district in North Hills to help the neighborhood recover from years of neglect is just the type of leadership we need in our next Mayor. I am pleased to endorse Jim today, and will do all I can to see that he is elected next June," said Councilman Padilla.

The City Attorney's Office, under Hahn's leadership, has worked to address public safety issues in the Northeast Valley, most recently in the area around Hubert Humphrey Park in Pacoima. Hahn's Citywide Nuisance Abatement Program has worked closely with Councilman Padilla's Office to establish a Neighborhood Block Project in the North Hills area to coordinate city resources in order to clean up the neighborhood from drug dealing and blight. Padilla and Hahn also recently collaborated to pass landmark city ordinances targeting illegal cigarette sales to minors.

"For this City to reach its true potential, Los Angeles' next Mayor needs to be someone who can establish a broad coalition, across every part of this City, and across all ethnic, racial, and economic lines," said Assemblyman Cardenas. "I have worked with Jim on issues related to juvenile crime prevention and community youth programs. Most recently, with his support, we were successful in getting precedent setting legislation passed that allocated substantial resources for services and programs for our youth. Jim's track record shows his commitment to education, better economic opportunities for our community, and fair resources for the Valley. That's why he has my support," said Cardenas.

Cardenas and Padilla were joined at the press conference by a broad coalition of community leaders from the Norhtheast Valley including City Commissioner Corina Alarcon; Pastor Andre Crouch; Pastor John Lett; San Fernando Mayor Silverio Robledo; Sergio Rascon, Executive-Secretary Laborers' Local 300; San Fernando Councilmembers Beverly DiTomaso and Richard Ramos, among others.
