HAHN NAMES GEORGE KIEFFER AS POLICY CHAIR FOR MAYORAL CAMPAIGN
Los Angeles - City Attorney Jim Hahn today announced the appointment of prominent attorney and civic leader George Kieffer as Policy Chair for his mayoral campaign. As Policy Chair Kieffer will direct and coordinate policy development for the campaign. Kieffer will also serve as a Vice-Chair of the campaign, assisting in the overall development of campaign strategy.
Kieffer was the Chairman of Hahn’s 1997 campaign for City Attorney, and was appointed by Hahn to the City of Los Angeles Charter Reform Commission. Kieffer served as Chairman of the commission which drafted and helped to pass the historic changes to the City’s 75-year old Charter. He was widely praised for his work and the credibility he developed with a wide range of constituencies.
“There are few people in this City with a better understanding of how city government functions, and what needs to be done to make this city more responsive to its residents than George Kieffer. His leadership in the development and passage of a new City Charter makes George the perfect person to help me in developing and refining the policies that will serve as the foundation of this campaign. I am very pleased that George has agreed to take on this role and to serve once again as a key person of my campaign team,” Hahn said.
“George shares my goals of improving our schools, continuing to reduce violent crime, cleaning up our neighborhoods, and improving city services, and will work with me to develop effective plans to meet these goals,” Hahn added.
“Jim will make a wonderful Mayor. No one has a clearer vision for the future of Los Angeles than Jim Hahn, and no one is more qualified to serve as the City’s next Mayor. I look forward to working with him to develop the policies that will serve Los Angeles when he becomes Mayor,” said Kieffer.
George Kieffer is a partner in the national law firm of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP. In addition to his role as Chair of the Charter Reform Commission, Kieffer serves on the Board of Directors of the California Chamber of Commerce, the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Central City Association. He was formerly a board member of the Urban League and the Board of Regents of the University of California, was a two-time president of the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges, and was Chair of the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions. Kieffer is also the author of the book The Strategy of Meetings, and the co-author of the book Governing Public Colleges & Universities.
