CIVIC LEADER DAN GARCIA ENDORSES HAHN FOR MAYOR
Los Angeles - City Attorney Jim Hahn today announced another major endorsement of his candidacy when he appointed long time civic leader Dan Garcia as a Vice-Chair of his mayoral campaign.
Over the last 20 years, Dan Garcia has served as a key advisor to both Mayor Tom Bradley and Mayor Richard Riordan, serving as President of the Planning Commission and Police Commission under Bradley, and as Chairman of the Community Redevelopment Agency and President of the Airport Commission under Riordan.
“Any of the candidates would benefit greatly from Dan’s tremendous experience, leadership, and wisdom. I am honored and pleased he has joined my effort to be the next Mayor of Los Angeles and has agreed to take a leadership role,” Hahn said. “Despite his busy professional commitments as an attorney and business executive, Dan has consistently given back to the community through his work with many civic organizations such as MALDEF, the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, and the Los Angeles Educational Partnership, and also through his extensive work in city government.”
“Dan shares my strong commitment to improving the quality of life in every neighborhood in this city and has demonstrated that commitment through action for many years. Having someone with Dan’s talent and experience on board is a great asset for our campaign,” Hahn added.
“Jim has demonstrated great leadership as City Attorney, and has demonstrated a life-long dedication to the people of this City. Particularly through his efforts to clean up slum housing and clean up neighborhood blight in some of the city’s toughest neighborhoods, Jim has shown his commitment to improving the lives of every resident in every neighborhood of this City. He has shown a willingness to tackle very difficult problems, and the innovation to find the solutions. That’s the type of leadership we need in the our next Mayor, and I look forward to doing all I can to help see Jim elected next year,” said Garcia.
In addition to serving on city commissions, Dan Garcia has been active in a wide variety of civic, professional and cultural activities including having served on the Board of Directors of numerous organizations including the Los Angeles Partnership for the Homeless, the Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and Health Plans, and the Rockefeller Foundation. He has also served on the board of civic organizations such as the LA 2000 Committee and Rebuild LA. He is a past president of the Mexican-American Bar Association and is a past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Greater Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.
Currently, Garcia is Senior Vice-President, Worldwide Corporate Real Estate for Warner Bros.
