CITY COMMISSIONER LISA SPECHT ENDORSES HAHN FOR MAYOR
Los Angeles - City Attorney Jim Hahn today announced the endorsement of prominent attorney and community leader Lisa Specht and appointed her as a Vice-Chair of his mayoral campaign.
Lisa Specht is a Commissioner on the Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Commission, appointed by Mayor Riordan, and serves as Vice President of the Los Angeles Coliseum Commission. Lisa is also the second former political opponent of Hahn’s to sign on to the campaign. Ted Stein, who ran against Hahn for City Attorney in 1997, announced his endorsement of Hahn a few weeks ago. Specht ran for City Attorney against Hahn in 1985.
“Lisa Specht is not only an extremely talented attorney, but has demonstrated great leadership in many different roles: as a City Commissioner, and her roles with important civic groups like Bet Tzedek Legal Services and the Urban League, among many others. Lisa is one of this City’s truly bright stars, and her advice and counsel during this campaign will be invaluable,” Hahn said. “Her willingness to play a major role in this campaign means a great deal to me and continues to add momentum to our efforts.”
“Jim’s enthusiasm for the future of this City, and what he can do as its next Mayor, as well as his dogged commitment to the campaign effort, made it perfectly clear to me what team I wanted to be on. As City Attorney he has been a leader in tackling tough problems such as domestic violence and the proliferation of guns on our streets, and has demonstrated innovation and drive in finding solutions to these very difficult issues. As Mayor, I know he’ll bring that same innovation to tackling the challenges that face this City in the years ahead,” said Specht.
As Vice-Chair of the campaign, Specht will be among a group of top advisors to the campaign and will play a key role in the development of political and fundraising strategy for the campaign.
In addition to serving as a commissioner on both the Recreation and Parks and Coliseum Commissions, Specht serves on a number of other civic boards and Commissions. Specht is a member of the Industry Policy Advisory Committee of the United States Department of Commerce; a Trustee of Pitzer College; a Senior Vice-President of the NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund and Chair of the California Leadership Council. Previously, she served as a Vice-President of Bet Tzedek Legal Services; a board member of the Urban League; a board member of the California Women Lawyers and Los Angeles Women Lawyers and an executive committee member of the American Jewish Committee.
Specht is a partner in the law firm of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP. The Los Angeles Business Journal includes Specht in its listing of the most prominent attorneys in Los Angeles County.
