HAHN ANNOUNCES FIRST MAJOR UNION ENDORSEMENT IN RACE FOR MAYOR
Los Angeles - City Attorney Jim Hahn announced today that the Southern California-Nevada Regional Council of Carpenters (SCNRCC), which represents nearly 40,000 members, has endorsed his candidacy for Mayor of Los Angeles. The Carpenters are the first major union to weigh in on the mayor’s race, and it represents a major boost to the Hahn campaign in its effort to secure support from organized labor.
“I am honored that the Regional Council of Carpenters has decided to join me in my campaign for Mayor of Los Angeles. Finding ways to make Los Angeles a more livable city is what this campaign is all about, and good wages and a well-trained workforce are keys to making Los Angeles a stronger community. The Carpenters recognize that I share their goals and will stand for the interests of the working men and women they represent,” Hahn said. “The support of organized labor will play an important role in this campaign, and the early support of the Carpenters means a great deal to me and my campaign effort, and sends a signal to other unions that Jim Hahn is someone they can count on.”
“The Southern California-Nevada Regional Council of Carpenters is really pleased today to endorse Jim Hahn’s candidacy for Mayor of Los Angeles. Jim and his family have always shared the values and interests of working men and women, and Jim recognizes the important role of organized labor in strengthening the community as a whole,” said Mike McCarron, the Executive Secretary Treasurer of the SCNRCC, while announcing the endorsement.
“No candidate in the race is more qualified to lead this City, and no candidate better understands and will work for the interests of the men and women we represent than Jim Hahn. We look forward to doing all we can to see that Jim is elected the city’s next mayor,” McCarron added.
The SCNRCC represent men and women in Southern California and Nevada who are employed in a number of fields. Members include commercial and residential concrete workers, carpenters, framers, drywallers, tapers, acoustical ceiling installers, lathers, millwrights, pile drivers, cabinet makers, and hotel maintenance carpenters. In addition, the union represents members in the electronics and aerospace industry, such as at Hughes Aircraft.
Mike McCarron was elected Executive Secretary Treasurer of the SCNRCC in August 1999 after serving a term as president.
