HARBOR COMMISSION PRESIDENT TED STEIN ENDORSES HAHN FOR MAYOR
Former Opponent Says Hahn “Will Be Great Leader for Los Angeles”
Los Angeles - Harbor Commission President Ted Stein announced today that he is backing the mayoral campaign of City Attorney James K. Hahn. Stein, an Encino attorney and businessman, ran against Hahn for City Attorney in 1997.
In his announcement, Stein said “I have watched with great interest the way the City Attorney has really re-energized his Office over the last two and a half year, and has not shied away from taking on tough fights, as demonstrated by the suits he has brought against the gun and tobacco industries. Jim has a strong record and a great deal of experience and it would be easy for him to rest on that record in his final term. Instead, he has taken on new challenges and made the necessary changes in the Office to meet its continually changing demands.”
“I have been particularly impressed with Hahn’s effort to establish a new Police Division within the Office to meet the huge legal demands of the Police Department, and his efforts to improve the Office’s service to city departments, something I have witnessed firsthand at the Harbor Department. Jim has also shown continued leadership in cracking down on gangs, blighted neighborhoods, domestic violence, and elder abuse, all efforts which I strongly support,” Stein said.
“Through my work at the airport, as a past president of the Planning Commission, and now at the Harbor Commission, I am personally committed to this city I love -- Los Angeles. In our conversations, I know Jim shares that commitment, and he has a real vision for this City in the years ahead. Jim is clearly the most qualified candidate, and will be a great leader for Los Angeles. I look forward to doing everything I can to see that he is elected its next Mayor,” added Stein.
“Ted and I share a commitment to build on our strong foundation and make this City even better in the years ahead. I am very grateful that Ted has agreed to join my campaign. Ted brings to the campaign fresh ideas, great energy, and a real passion for this City. It’s terrific to have all of those qualities as part of my team,” Hahn said.
Ted Stein lives in Encino with his wife Ellen.
