With the Los Angeles city elections six weeks away, City Attorney James Hahn continued to hold a wide lead in fund raising, with more than $2.2 million available for the final run.
Campaign reports filed Thursday showed Hahn has raised more than $2.7 million for the race, including more than $232,000 since Jan. 1, far outstripping his five major opponents in the April 10 election.
The figures are significant in showing what each campaign will have available for advertising and mailing in the final weeks.
Hahn and the other candidates are waiting to see if and how much of his own money businessman Steve Soboroff will put in the race by the March 11 deadline to declare the use of personal funds above $30,000.
Soboroff -- who reported having $623,000 in cash and raising $333,000 in the most recent reporting period -- has been spending upwards of $200,000 a week for the past month on television advertising. He has said he is willing to use up to $2 million of his own money in the race.
Second to Hahn in cash was former Assembly speaker Antonio Villaraigosa, who reported having $1.6 million available, which includes having raised more than $185,000 in the most recent reporting period.
Next was Councilman Joel Wachs, who reported having $1.35 million available after having raised more than $170,000 in this period.
State Controller Kathleen Connell reported having nearly $1.3 million in cash after raising more than $350,000 this period.
Rep. Xavier Becerra, D-Los Angeles, reported raising more than $106,390 this period. He has $586,555 in cash. His campaign said he is focusing much of his attention on community meetings, with more than 60 scheduled in the final 39 days of the campaign.
